- Memahami tipe penelitian dimulai dari kuantitatif lalu kualitatif.
- Memahami domain penelitian bidang arsitektur mulai dari deskriptif-naratif, evaluatif, pemodelan hingga riset aksi (action research).
- Memahami prosedur dalam menjalankan riset dimulai dari merumuskan permasalahan riset, review literature, menyusun rancangan riset/studi, metode pengumpulan data, tipe validitas, konsep sampling, analisis data, penulisan proposal riset.
- Keterampilan mendasar tentang tinjauan pustaka, hubungan antara metodologi dan teori yang dapat dibangun, kemungkinan-kemungkinan hubungan atau kontribusi yang dapat dilakukan oleh riset dan/terhadap desain.
